The Federal President awarded the two scientists and entrepreneurs the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for the development of their Corona vaccine.
The founders of the German pharmaceutical company BioNTech, which developed one of the first vaccines against Covid-19, are to receive the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany on Friday.
Ozlem Tureci and Ugur Sahin are to receive the Knight Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit, one of the highest honours conferred by the German state.
The awards are to be given to them by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Bellevue Palace, the presidential residence.
It is the first prize to be awarded by the German president in person this year.
