Nippon Steel to make further production cuts

Japan’s largest steel maker will make further cut production capacity as domestic demand continues to fall.

The company says fierce competition from foreign rivals has also contributed to making its current output capacity excessive.

Nippon Steel says it will halt operations at one of two blast furnaces at its plant in Ibaraki Prefecture, northeast of Tokyo, by March 2025.
